Today's Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Exhibitions and EventsSep 7: Film - War and Peace (Part 1) Sun, 07 Sep 2008 14:16:14 -0500
10:30 AM War and Peace by Sergei Bondarchuk (USSR, 1968, 484 min., in four parts). A grand adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s celebrated novel, the immense production took seven years and $100 million to create, and includes one of the largest battle scenes ever filmed (using 120,000 extras). With two intertwined central plots—the love story of Countess Natasha Rostova and Count Pierre Bezukhov, and the Great Patriotic War of 1812—narratives are deftly blended together. “War and Peace is great cinema. It is as spectacular as a movie can possibly be and yet it has a human fullness” (Roger Ebert). Pass for Parts 1–4: $MFA members, seniors, and students $20; general admission $25.
